Journeys End

The hardest part is starting.

So I started my trip on Monday September 16th from Yorktown Va. I just had to dip my wheel into the salt waters of the east coast and across the bridge from my hometown of Gloucester.

I was proud to have my dad ride the very first day with me to Richmond. He did awesome for his age and made a new record for himself of 72 miles.

It was so easy to end in the place that I call home. Not to mention, to sleep on my floor of my apartment (which I have moved out of).

Tuesday was the hardest thing I have done in a while. Starting my solo ride by myself.. Leaving family, people that mean so much to me and all that I am familiar with to spend months on my bike. I had a mini breakdown while loading my bike. Bryan Lewis bought me some lunch that morning and pumped me up for the ride.

After getting on the road, I ran into my good friend Bobby, who had just been out doing some scooter riding. I didn't have a parade, but it was huge to see someone I knew while peddling out the first day.  I randomly ran into him again about 20 miles outside Richmond.

Rode west to farmville area all day. So much changes just outside the city.

Got lost thinking I made it to twin lakes state park in Burkeville and had to ride about 11 miles out of the way to my campsite. Finally about 75 miles later I made it and set up camp and made some dinner. This is the Amazing morning here:

It seems that fall is coming early!  I may need warmer clothes sent to me sooner than I thought. Also, cold nights suck for drying clothes:

This is Wayne and Florence  From Sandston Va.  They were great company to help battle loneliness the first day. I listened to their good conversations into the night. Seems they are always stoked on camping and have been married for 43 years.

Today I will pack up and head towards Danville VA. I hope to cross into North Carolina in the next 2 days. Total distance so far:

The best thing is the friendly people on porches or driving by giving me huge waves while I peddle by.  It really helps while peddling the open road. Till next time...
